DSD Freebie #2 "Carousel of Color" mini kit

Hi everyone! :)

I see my Pluto mini kit from yesterday has been a bit popular...please continue to leave me feedback so I know how I can create things you'd want in the future. I truly appreciate your honest feedback, so please don't be afraid to tell me what you really think. This mini was inspired by "World of Color"...I still can't believe I witnessed that wonderful show on opening weekend..it was seriously amazing. Can't wait to see it again in 37 days!!!

Alrighty, looks like its time to release freebie #2...
(Please forgive my horrible preview making skills, lol)
-freebie link expired-

I'm not sure if I even like this, but I'm hoping someone gets some use out of it.
The preview doesn't really show the detail of the paint strokes very well either :(

Autograph Book Tutorial Part 1

Hi everyone! I am leaving for Disneyland in a few short hours...!!! EXCITEMENT !!!

So I have had lots of people messaging me on MouseScrappers asking me for a tutorial on how to make the autograph books. I came up with this idea after seeing all of the other books available out there. I saw lots of traditionally scrapped books and they were awesome. However, given I am 100% digital these days I came up with this idea last year. This helps my digital kits get a little extra use and it's dirt cheap. I made 3 autograph books last December for less than what ONE costs at Disneyland. :) Intrigued? Then let's dive in!

Hybrid Autograph Books Part 1 by Kayla

Materials
*scissors
*glue (whatever you prefer, but I found Glue Dots do NOT work well)
*digital scrap kits
*printing service (I swear by Kodak Gallery for picture prints)
*book rings (I buy mine at Walmart for $1.50 for 8 rings)
*ribbon (optional)
*hole puncher (they have hand held single punch ones at Walmart for .75 cents to $1, or you can pickup a 3 hole punch for about $5)

Step One // Create Your Autograph Pages (or print at home to eliminate Step Two!!)
Use your favorite program using your digital kits to create your book. I prefer the 4x6 size because they are small enough to carry, especially if you have to carry around multiple books. I just open up a new document in Photoshop CS4 and size it 4x6 at 300 dpi. Save all of your pages as JPGs. One other thing to keep in mind is to have an idea of the order of your book, that way you know which corners not to put lots of embellishments in since you will be hole punching the pages.

CREDIT TO BRITTISH DESIGNS for the use of her kits in this project.. "A Halloween Nightmare" & "It's Good To Be Bad".

Step Two // Order Your Prints & Wait For Arrival
I have always ordered from Kodak Gallery and I am so pleased. If you are a new member you can get 50 free prints and shipping charge is very fair. I love the glossy prints they offer, they are always stunning and the colors are great. Be sure to order according to how many of each photo you will need. For example, if you are creating 2 books, you will want 2 of each print, one for each book.

Step Three // Gather Your Materials
Here is a photo sample of what I used to create my books, after you have your prints the hardest part is over. From here on it literally takes minutes to complete your books.
(Hole punch isn't shown in the photo as it was missing in action when I was snapping away, lol)

Step Four // Put Your Prints In Book Order & Punch Holes
**NORMALLY this is the part where I glue each of the pages together in book order so that it makes the pages tougher and easier to turn, however, this time I am waiting to glue them so that way I can remove unused autograph pages after the trip in order to prevent from extra blank pages. Here is a photo to show where you would place the glue on the white backs of the pictures. Pay special attention to lining the pages up straight. Usually I would glue and let the pages dry before hole punching.**

Since you need to know where to punch a hole in the page, you will want to find an order to your book. I usually just punch one hole in the top left corner of the book. I divide each book into 3 parts so they fit into the hole puncher, but still keeping them in order, and punch. Then I take the finished stack and set it aside then move onto the next book and punch that as well.

The photos below demonstrate sort of what your pages will look like when you flip through them, be sure to double check be for you punch holes!!

Step Five // Adding The Book Rings & Optional Embellishment Of The Rings
After the holes are punched I add my book rings. Normally I will get into my old ribbon stash and cut a few pieces in colors that match my books. It's fun to cut them in different lengths and add frayed edges to some of the pieces to add more flair to the books. Then I double knot the pieces of ribbon around the book ring. You can even add a little dab of glue to the knot to keep them from coming undone. I had all of the colors I used for the cover of the book, how lucky was that?!?

And you're done!

Part 2 will show up next week and it will basically consist of me glueing and removing some of the pages that went unused. Also, I will showcase the autographs I got! :)

Alright, I'm out for now...gotta go get my bags together..leaving in a few hours! Please let me know if you enjoyed the tutorial!!!

"This is Halloween, this is Halloween"...well, 10 days away it is! :)

So..here we are, 10 days away from Halloween, how crazy is that? It's so weird, I finally just got used to writing 2010 instead of 2009 and here we are, just a few months away from 2011.

Now, I am also 1 week away from attending the Villains Victory Party at Disneyland. I seriously don't know what to expect so it's going to be nuts I'm sure. Also, tomorrow I will be able to call and make all of my Priority Seating reservations for the December trip! Yayyy. So only 54 days from today we will be leaving for our big trip! :)

If anyone is curious about where I am planning to book, tune in tomorrow and I'll post a list of places with reviews.

Now, since I am absolutely giddy for Haunted Mansion Holiday in a week I have whipped up a couple freebies for all of my scrapper pals :)

First up, it's.... "Happy Haunts: Regular" Word Art Pack

Next up I have... "Happy Haunts: Seasonal" Word Art Pack

PLEASE NOTE....these are: created at 300dpi, PNG files, a few pieces are available in multiple colors, and DROP SHADOWS ARE FOR THE PREVIEWS ONLY! :)

Thanks for stopping by, and go scrap something magical!!!

You asked for it.... & Villains Victory Party autograph book preview :)

Well thank you so much to everyone who's been leaving me feedback in the poll for the Halloweentime mega add-on that Kathleena will be giving away for her participation prize for her challenge at MouseScrappers in November.

I can tell you that there will definitely be several solid papers and as many Mouse-type elements as I can cram into the add-on.

Leave me some suggestions below for anything slightly or extremely specific you'd like to see in the add-on!

In other news, I haven't had time at ALL for layouts or anything lately. I am 2 weeks away from graduating and simply swamped. However, I did finish my Villains Victory Party autograph book over the weekend and sent the pages to be printed on Sunday night. They have been shipped and should be here by next Monday! I will also be creating a tutorial on how I put together my book so that if you like my method, you can try it out yourself. It's truly very easy! :)

Here are watermarked previews of a few pages:

COVER
(made using "It's Good To Be Bad" by Brittish Designs)

 MICKEY
(made using "It's Good To Be Bad" & "Mouse Buttons" by Brittish Designs)

 MINNIE
(made using "It's Good To Be Bad" by Brittish Designs)

EVIL QUEEN
(made using "It's Good To Be Bad" by Brittish Designs)

 CRUELLA
(made using "It's Good To Be Bad" by Brittish Designs)
 JACK SKELLINGTON
(made using "A Halloween Nightmare" by Brittish Designs)

SALLY
(made using "A Halloween Nightmare" by Brittish Designs)

These autograph pages wouldn't have been possible without all of the lovely kits from Brittish Designs! So thanks Britt, your talents are very much adored and appreciated!!!

Well, gotta run, can't believe we leave a week from tomorrow!

I won tickets to the Villains Victory Party at Disneyland!!!

So I was minding my own business on the Disney Parks Blog yesterday and refreshed a page only to find a brand new entry that had been posted seconds earlier. I quickly skimmed the article looking for the trivia questions because I really wanted a shot at these Villains Victory tickets which you cannot buy anywhere. The contest was over so quick I couldn't believe it. Nearly 10 minutes after I sent in my answers I had a confirmation email saying that I won! They even posted my name on the winners list--> HERE.

I am so super excited but also super rushed now. I'm planning to make up an autograph book in a hurry to take with me to the party on October 28th.

Who's my favorite villain, you ask? Why, it's Captain Hook, of course!

But, I have to say, the Little Mermaid was my favorite movie when I was little, and that Ursula still creeps me out lol. I hope she doesn't win! In all honesty, Maleficent has really been a front runner and I think she will "take the cake" this year.

You can still vote for the "baddest" villain on www.Disneyland.com/Halloween until October 28th and the winner will be announced at the Villain party.

One thing I am REALLY looking forward to is Club Skellington and I truly hope I get to meet Jack & Sally!!! They are also having these Haunted Cruises on Mark Twain Riverboat so I'm just dying to see what that will be like.

As far as the autograph book goes, I'm running around trying to come up with pages for characters I will possibly be meeting...

I made a list of potential pages I want to create:

Maleficent
Evil Queen
Jafar
Ursula
Captain Hook
Cruella
Pirates
Jack & Sally
Mickey
Minnie
Donald
Goofy
Pluto
Red Queen
Pooh & pals
Critter Pals (from Splash Mtn)
Toy Story Pals

Anyone else have any ideas of ones that I might be missing? I will also include some blank pages for unexpected characters as well, but I wanted to make sure I had the most popular or the most expected ones. Drawing from the Disney Parks Blog, these were the only ones I could think of. Any suggestions would be helpful :)

Also, be sure to follow along with me on Twitter if you wish!! I will have a full trip report available here on Halloween weekend! :)

A sad day yesterday & good news for YOU!

Hi everyone,

If you were following me on Twitter yesterday you might have seen the posts about how I lost all of my LOs. I seriously broke down crying because I couldn't find them.

I'm glad I had lots of people to say nice things to make me feel better. Carol from MS suggested a program for me to use and I was able to retrieve maybe 5 or 6 files that I can still use, which is better than nothing for sure. I still don't know what happened to everything, especially since I had used it the day before. If you want to read all of the comments & suggestions that I got, go to the MS forum HERE.

Thanks again everyone for your support!! I am going to be starting over this weekend from the beginning. I'm hoping I can finally get my first book printed by January.

Alrighty, now onto the good news for YOU! To those of you who missed my Halloweentime kit, you're getting another shot...PLUS..a bonus MEGA add-on.
I promise you, it's going to be huge! To those of you who already have the kit, you'll atleast want to participate to get that add-on!! How do you get it, you ask? Well I spoke with Kathleena from MS about how she needed a Participation Prize for her Speed Scrap (to be held the week of November 22...actual date to be added soon!). I am super excited cuz that's also my birthday week so I'm thinking of a new Disney Birthday type kit...still not sure if I will be able to work that in yet.

So tell me, what types of things would you like to see in the Halloweentime mega add-on? :) Take the poll on the right!

Thanks for your input & please...remember to back up your precious files!!!

Have a magical weekend everyone!

Halloweentime freebies 5, 6, 7, and 8!! :)

Hey everyone...first off, I could really use your help! Would you be willing to glance at the right side of my blog (on the side panel) and take the poll I have posted there? It would really be helpful, and please be 100% honest, I can take the criticism! :) It's also confidential so I will have no idea who voted for what. I am just trying to get an idea of how good people are liking the kit.

REMEMBER...the links are only good until this coming Monday (September 27th). After that I will be taking all of the links down and tucking this mini-kit away for later as a participation prize for MouseScrappers. At that time, for those of you who have already downloaded the parts I will provide an extra add-on just for you.

Okay, now I really worked this morning to crank out the next 4 parts so tomorrow I might not post any. School is really killing me right now. The only thing keeping me going is knowing that after I do my homework I can work on my digi-pages or my autograph books.

Here are the next 4 installments!!

Thanks SO much for the nice comments I have been getting. It makes me feel good. I'm still pretty new at the designing part but I'm kinda happy with what I have created so far. I just have to remember..baby steps.

So how is everyone doing? Getting your pages scrapped? I haven't done a layout since my template challenge (which is still going on by the way..you have a few more days if you haven't joined in)!!!

I've been working on my December 2010 autograph books. They blow my old ones out of the water!!! :)

Halloweentime freebies 2 & 3!!!

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a nice weekend! My fiance and I sure did. We went to the movies yesterday to see "The Town" (I give it 4/5 stars) and "Devil" (I give it 1.5/5 stars). We were going to go out to the Disney Outlet at Arizona Mills Mall but didn't get around to it. But Steven has promised that we will go next weekend so I have something to look forward to!

We also watched the premier of "Boardwalk Empire" on HBO...did anyone else watch it?

Anyways, okay everyone..I really need your help! I need you to spread the word about my blog!!! I feel like my freebies are being neglected because I haven't generated enough traffic here yet! So please tell your friends!! I will be very thankful for your help!

I also stopped by to drop off a freebie for you all. I pretty sad that my last freebie has only received 3 downloads! :( I don't think enough people are reading this yet. Anyways, here's your little freebie to kick off Halloweentime, even if you're not at Disney! :)

Got my braces off, my first blog freebie, and Speed Scrap #20!

Hi everyone.

Yesterday I got my braces removed as I'm sure you heard through Twitter or Facebook. I'm super happy. However things have been rather hectic with school, hosting challenges at MS, and a few other personal things. I was working on a freebie for awhile but decided I really didn't want to rush it. So instead I created a simple wordart freebie for you all! :)

{in ZIP format}
and please let me know what you think!

Oh yes, and one more thing! I managed to set aside a little
bit of time this afternoon to participate in MouseScrappers' Speed Scrap
#20 hosted by Krista (aka Sahlin).

Here's what I came up with!

Hosting Template Challenge & remembering a sad day in history...

Hi-

Since the first day of my latest challenge (thread is HERE) happend to fall on the 9th Anniversary of September 11th I thought I'd encorporate an extra little instruction into the mix.

Not only do you need to use the template (feel free to alter it in anyway you wish but I should be able to see a similar likeness to the original) but you also need to throw in some red, white, or blue to your layout. It's up to you how much or how little to use. Let's just see it in there somewhere! :)

My heart really does go out to the families, law enforcement, those lost, and those who stood up to help without being asked to. I salute you with a little Disney touch, of course :)

One day I sincerely hope to go and visit the memorial at Ground Zero.

********************************

Alright here's the LO I did for my template challenge...

Please drop by and join us at MouseScrappers.com!!! You have until September 24, 2010 to submit your layouts.

P.S. Please continue to be patient with me...I am planning to post a small freebie soon!! Also, a trip report from Labor Day weekend will creep in the near future as well.

Hectic schedule, surprise for me, and...AVAST!...a Pirate blog train!!!

I know this isn't a good start to a blog but things have been more hectic than ever lately. I have been working on a freebie to give away soon though! It's small but I've gotta start that way or it won't be good stuff lol.

Well these past few days have been especially nerve-wracking because I got a surprise trip to Disney..then it was taken away..and now it's officially back on! So ya, follow me on Twitter if you want all the details. There is one small thing that may fall through at the last minute but odds are in my favor. If it fails I'll be going to Universal Studios instead. Either way it's going to be a much needed weekend for me and my honey. I'm really not into spontaneous trips because I'm a slight control freak when it comes to logistics (haha!) so I will be nervous all the way up until I'm there but I know it will be a blasty blast either way! I am so so so thankful!

Now, if it be booty ye be lookin' for you've come to the proper place matey!

This morning I was so thrilled to find this cute Pirate themed blog train by the Stuff To Scrap gals. The first stop is HERE---> http://letmescrapbook.blogspot.com/

Here are a few of the pieces I've collected so far that I really like...

**NOTE** No copyright infringement is intended or encouraged here on my blog. Please go to the designers blog for your download. Please be sure to thank them for their generosity because they rock, right!?!?

Super cute right? Some of the links haven't posted but will probably be over the next few days.  Well, I probably won't be back until next week but keep your eyes open for little freebies starting next week!!! Off to my happy place soon!!!!

The first ever hybrid challenge coming to MouseScrappers tomorrow!!!

Sorry it's been awhile since an update. Life is getting hectic. Just found out I will be getting my braces off in 3 weeks!!! So excited!! I've only worn them for a little over a year. Lost another 3 pounds...go me! :) In more not-so-exciting news I had to take on a 3rd class in order to graduate on time. So now I'm so swamped but lately I've still found a little time to scrap. Just did a 2 pager and a single pager in the last few days.

Anyways, yep..tomorrow I will be posting the templates and the instructions for the first ever hybrid challenge at MouseScrappers. I am so excited and hope that many people will want to join in!! See you in the forum tomorrow!! The challenge will be to create ATLEAST 2 autograph book pages. More details to be released... :)

Looks like 112 days till I'm in my happy place :)
Buh-bye for now :)

Announcement: Hybrid Challenges coming to MouseScrappers!!!

Hey everyone! :)

I just spoke to Carol regarding the possibility of hybrid projects on MouseScrappers. For now, I will host the first one to see how many people are actually interested in doing these challenges regularly, then I will start a sign up sheet if the feedback is positive. Each challenge will last about 2 weeks so that way everyone will have plenty of time to prepare their projects.

These projects will be Disney related and the prize will be the templates you get. You can then use them over and over for Disney and non-Disney stuff.

New to hybrid? That's okay! I am not the "know-all" of hybrid..and I know there are a few hybrid savvy girls here who can help out with their knowledge!!

Here's some info on hybrid:

What is Hybrid Scrapbooking?
Hybrid scrapbooking combines the tools and techniques of both digital and traditional (paper) scrapbooking, and shares a common goal with each: namely to document life’s events and memories in an artistic way. Of the three styles, hybrid scrapbooking allows the most creative freedom because it is not limited to just one source of materials. It involves the same elements as paper and digital scrapbooking (photos, memorabilia, embellishments, words, etc.), but any aspect of the scrapbook page can be generated digitally or by physical application.
(credit to scrapbookideas.wordpress.com for this info)

Usually basic supplies you will need to complete the projects will be your digi-stash of kits/embellies, Photoshop/layering program, scissors, some type of adhesive (your choice), cardstock/photo paper (depending on project of course), and various other things..again, depending on the project. Even traditional scrappers can take part in this and use the templates as a "stencil" but we will get more into that later. (Note: In each challenge you will be told what you need to complete the project.)

My goal is to keep the first challenge as simple as possible. A tutorial will be given in the thread and in the download for your convenience.

Ideas for projects right now include: autograph book templates (which might be the first project so stay tuned!!), pillow boxes, explosion boxes, candy tents, cupcake toppers, greeting cards, Halloween-themed projects, and Christmas-themed projects.

The first challenge kicks off this Wednesday August 25 and will last until Tuesday September 7 in the challenge forum at MouseScrappers!!!

Any thoughts? Will you join us?? Head over to the thread: HERE to answer!!!

P.S. Wanna see what hybrid projects look like? Go HERE to get an idea!!

The templates are here!!

Hey ladies!

As promised to my "followers" here is a preview of the template pack. I know they aren't to spectacular but I figured a mixed kind of pack with no real theme would be cool to give away. I am currently working on more elaborate templates which I will give away in the future.

Please check your email for the link to these.

If anyone else wants these please follow my blog/Twitter/Facebook (one of these is fine) and then EMAIL ME so I can email you these. In the future I will just post links here..but for now this is how I decided to do it.

I left lots of creative space open for you to decide what type of elements to use to really embellish these. Sometimes when I see templates with tons of flowers and stuff it makes me think I have to use flowers. So I'd love to see what you guys come up with if you use them.

Here's a preview:

Please feel free to give me some constructive criticism here, via email, or via 4shared.

Thank you for your patience & enjoy!!!

Few more freebies I'd like to point you to...

I have some extra time to kill this morning before I head out on my busy busy day. So while I was doing some freebie hunting I thought I'd share some that I liked with you.

REMINDER: Please say thank you to the designers on their blog or 4shared sites so they know we appreciate them! :)

Today is the first day that "Just So Scrappy" is giving away this cute brag book. Perhaps some of you might like it for Jungle Cruise photos or Animal Kingdom perhaps? (it's a long post so make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom to find the freebie)

Isn't this super cute!?!? I think this could definitely be used for some Princess layouts!!

Perhaps for Pop Century layouts?? I haven't been to WDW so I don't know if this fits or not. Still cute though.
(PLEASE be sure to tell this designer thank you if you download because she has been under-appreciated lately and I think it's just a shame because her work is cute!!)
Also, be sure to check out her other posts recently for more from this kit.

Alrighty, I'm off for the day.

Wednesday, delays, speed scrap, and freebies!

Sorry ladies, I know some of you are waiting patiently for the template pack. Life is hectic this week. Turns out I have to take 3 classes instead of 2 so I am a week behind after joining the 3rd class late. Tomorrow I have to get a cavity filled at the dentist and help my dear Grandma pick out her new blinds and fix her computer. Wednesday I have to spend pretty much most of the day online in my classes so I figure I'll have plenty of time to post up the template pack. The first template I didn't like at all so I had to redo it. Then Thursday and Friday are busy too, so if it's gonna happen before the weekend it will be WEDNESDAY! :)

Did anyone else join Speed Scrap #18 tonight? Tanya had awesome directions and the PP was cute (Thanks to Wendy of WM[squared] for donating).

Here's the LO I did:

Urgh, I didn't realize till after I deleted the PSD file that it had a typo in the journaling so I'm gonna have to try and fix it somehow.

Oh and I know that some of you are out there searching for freebies like I do. I've decided to point you in the direction of a few that I snagged recently...

Ah, where to begin. I just recently found Designs By Sarah and she does some stunningly beautiful alphas that I think could definitely be used for Disney pages. Here's a few...

(This just screams Cinderella to me!!!)

(I think it would be cute for Princess pages or Fantasyland pages!!)

(Says "Splash Mountain" to me!!)

Check out her blog for more freebies and please say thank you!!! More freebies from other designers and me in the coming days so check back soon!!

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Preview of template pack coming soon!!!

I have been hard at work finishing up the template pack. There will be 3 (possibly 4) templates available in PSD and TIFF format. I personally like the TIFF format because they are smaller files and you can see a JPG preview of them rather than the Photoshop logo.

Those of you who have not emailed me with your info should do so soon because next week I will begin sending out templates. Also, we only need 15 or so more people and I will release an extra goody to everyone.

Hope you all are having a magical weekend!! Only 4 more months till my next trip! :)

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Quick update...

Hey everyone. Quick update regarding the freebie template pack. I will be posting a preview of it next week. Then I will also start sending it out at that time. If you were previously a fan or friend of any of my pages before you are still eligible for the freebie templates. All you have to do is drop me an email with the information I requested in the post below. Send it to disney_kayla at yahoo dot com (I spelled it out so the spam bots hopefully won't attack me..eeshh!!). Please also email me with any questions on how to snag the template pack. REMEMBER..you have until September 1st to get this done! Also, if I reach my goal I will send out a "Disney-esque" word art pack as well!!

Thanks and hope to chat with you soon!!

Starting a new blog and freebies coming!!

I decided since that many of the ladies on MouseScrappers have their own blogs that I should get one for myself too!! :) Please stick with me while I tweak the look and layout!!  I will probably only post about once a week or so. Eventually I am going to start giving some type of Disney freebies away while I practice the new designs skills that I am learning.

First off, I want to offer a free template pack to anyone who wants to "follow" me on my blog. This is going to last from now until September 1st! So if you have blogger, Facebook, or Twitter please add me on one of those. Once you have added me send me an email (see the sidebar for my email address) and let me know your first name, which site/sites you added me on, and what your screen name is there. Once you have done this I will send you a template pack and if I get over 25 people I will also give away a new Disney word art pack to everyone.

Have a magical day!
